Held annually on November 11, the Paris Peace Forum serves as a platform for dialogue and international cooperation aimed at building collective solutions for a more peaceful and sustainable world. By bringing together high-level decision-makers and fostering synergies among governments, international organizations, the private sector, and civil society, the forum helps reinvent diplomatic practices. Its ambition: to make diplomacy a concrete, inclusive force capable of addressing today’s global challenges.
At the 2023 edition of the Paris Peace Forum, Expertise France and Proparco, both entities of the AFD Group, co-hosted a side event dedicated to enhancing support for the private sector in fragile and crisis-affected contexts. This initiative reflects a collective approach carried out on behalf of European development agencies through three key networks: the Practitioners’ Network, EDFI (European Development Finance Institutions), and JEFIC (Joint European Financiers for International Cooperation).
In a global environment increasingly affected by conflict and systemic crises, development challenges are becoming more complex. In response, the AFD Group has adapted its approach by reshaping its tools and operations. It now combines crisis prevention, emergency response, and post-conflict recovery while integrating humanitarian aid and peacebuilding. This evolution positions the Group as a key actor committed to strengthening societal resilience and long-term stability.
The joint event organized by Expertise France and Proparco highlighted the complementarity of their expertise on the ground—one through technical cooperation, the other through private sector financing. Together, they deliver coordinated responses tailored to the specific needs of fragile states, factoring in local contexts and fostering collaboration among a wide range of partners.
