Conferences of the Parties (COP): Acting Together for a Just and Sustainable Transition

The Conferences of the Parties (COP) on climate are key milestones in global environmental governance, where countries collectively negotiate responses to the climate crisis. As a public agency for international technical cooperation, Expertise France takes part in these global summits to showcase the initiatives carried out with its partners and to contribute to the implementation of concrete actions supporting ecological transition, adaptation, and resilience.

Each year, the COPs bring together the signatory States of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to advance efforts in combating global warming. These conferences are pivotal in global environmental diplomacy, enabling countries to negotiate ambitious commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, adapt territories to climate impacts, and mobilize international climate finance.

Expertise France’s participation in the COPs is part of a long-term strategic commitment to an inclusive and sustainable ecological transition. Attending each edition alongside the AFD Group, the agency mobilizes its teams, institutional partners and technical experts to ensure that the voice of technical cooperation is heard in global climate negotiations.

This participation is both institutional and operational. Expertise France organizes or co-hosts events, technical panels, and discussion sessions on key topics such as adaptation, climate finance, nature-based solutions, and capacity building. The agency also highlights flagship projects deployed in partner countries, in alignment with the Paris Agreement.

Through this ongoing engagement, Expertise France promotes a context-sensitive and inclusive climate action, aligned with national priorities—particularly in developing countries and regions most vulnerable to the effects of climate change. The COPs thus provide a vital platform for visibility, advocacy, and coordination with other development actors, in support of lasting impact on the ground.
