The UNI.AO Higher Education Support Programme, financed by the European Union and implemented by Expertise France, supports the training of senior executives to develop and diversify Angola’s economy.
Higher education, a priority in Angola
In Angola, higher education is a priority set out in the 2025 Angola Strategy and in the National Development Plan. The UNI.AO programme, which focuses on post-master’s higher education, meets the need to train senior executives in order to develop and diversify Angola’s economy.
The UNI.AO programme is the second project conducted by Expertise France in Angola. It follows on from and is complementary to various bilateral cooperation projects conducted between France and Angola in the higher education sector for several years. The other programme, RETFOP, which is also financed by the European Union, is supporting the vocational training sector. They both focus on training technicians and executives, with the aim of participating in the process to diversify Angola’s economy.
Three areas of operation
Under the UNI.AO programme, Expertise France is working to strengthen the professionalisation of training and promote strong ties between universities and companies to ensure there is a better match between the training provision and the job market.
The programme will take action on 3 areas:
- Governance, by bringing support to the Ministry of Higher Education,
- Specialisation, by supporting the creation of Master’s degrees and Ph.Ds in high-potential areas for the economy,
- Access and connections to companies, to ensure more equitable access to the labour market and training that better matches business needs.
With the current Covid-19 situation and the economic crisis, the need to invest in training for young people to offer quality training which allow them to tackle the challenges facing the country, has once again been demonstrated.
