The aim of this project is to establish links between the African and European audiovisual industries to foster new talents and promote the circulation of joint productions.
Growth and challenges in a changing industry
The audiovisual industries (film, series, animation, video games, immersive content) are experiencing rapid growth in sub-Saharan Africa, thanks to a new generation of creators and studios. These sectors are growing in maturity and international visibility, but they remain hampered by uneven regulatory frameworks, limited access to appropriate financing, and professional networks that are still poorly connected internationally.
The creation of the “Africa-Europe Partnerships for Culture: Audiovisual sector” programme came about as a response to these challenges, with the aim of strengthening relations between Africa and Europe and promoting intercultural dialogue between their citizens, based on the entire audiovisual value chain.
A framework conducive to investment and co-creation
As part of this programme, we seek to improve regulatory frameworks (e.g., on intellectual property, anti-piracy, and fair co-productions) and to facilitate access to market information for companies, investors, and public authorities.
We support mixed teams from Africa and Europe, from their project incubation stage to their preparation for investment and search for funders.
Connecting talents and supporting their development
The programme emphasises the upskilling and mobility of professionals by providing training, mobility schemes to enter major festivals and international markets, and access to the sector’s expertise and networks. Special focus is put on young people and women.
Expanded access to content and audiences
The programme supports innovative distribution channels adapted to African contexts, production localisation (for subtitling and dubbing) and the circulation of Africa-Europe co-productions, so that African productions can reach wider audiences, especially among younger generations.
