Gender-based violence represents a major challenge in both human and economic terms. Through the Gender Flagship project funded by the European Union, Expertise France is supporting Member States in adopting budgetary practices to prevent such violence and provide better support for victims.

With an estimated annual cost of 289 billion euros according to the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE), gender-based violence has a profound impact on our societies. These figures include lost economic productivity and public spending on health, justice, police and social services.
Through the Gender Flagship project, funded by the European Union, Expertise France is working with twelve national and local authorities in nine Member States to integrate gender-sensitive budgetary approaches to better prevent and respond to this violence.

The project is being implemented in partnership with the European Institute for Gender Equality and the European University Institute.

From 26 to 28 November 2024 in Strasbourg, a workshop will bring together experts, decision-makers and international organisations to discuss the practical solutions that have been implemented. This event is also a key opportunity for the partners to discuss the successes and challenges of these reforms.
