Expertise France and sustainable, inclusive cities

Published on

55% of the world’s population currently lives in urban areas, with this figure expected to reach 80% by 2050, while in 2030, a further 29 cities will have reached 5 million inhabitants, including 15 in Asia and 10 in Africa. Furthermore, almost 70% of infrastructure will be built in the coming years in southern countries.

This rapid urbanisation requires existing infrastructure and networks to be redesigned to meet the increasing needs of the population, improve the provision of urban services (drinking water, sanitation, waste management, etc.), and increase the available affordable housing.

Through its activity, Expertise France is accompanying southern cities in meeting the challenges arising from this urbanisation.
