Creation, innovation and entrepreneurship: how do diasporas contribute to development in the French-speaking world?

Today, entrepreneurship is a major issue and a real driver of economic development, particularly in Africa. Members of the African diaspora play a key role in this dynamic, initiating numerous entrepreneurial projects. Their dual cultural background and the wealth of their networks are invaluable assets, provided they receive appropriate support. How can diaspora entrepreneurship become a powerful lever for stimulating development and strengthening cooperation, and why is it essential to provide more support for this approach?
Perspectives: Elisabeth Moreno, former Minister for gender equality
Diasporas offer a potential for sustainable development because of their intellectual, cultural and financial capital, as well as their active participation in society. The dynamics we are seeing in the French-speaking world are a perfect illustration of this reality, with committed diasporas contributing every day, through their ability to create, innovate and undertake, to building lasting bridges between peoples, countries and continents.
In the African context, diaspora investment refers to the financial and entrepreneurial contributions made by members of the African diaspora to their countries of origin. These investments can take a variety of forms, from setting up local businesses to participating in real estate projects and financing social and development projects.
The African diaspora is made up of people who have migrated to other parts of the world, and whose expertise, network and financial resources can be mobilised to support the economic development of their country of origin. In an environment where many African states are seeking to boost their economic growth and attract foreign investment, diaspora investment is of particular importance as a potential lever for strengthening local economies and fostering innovation.
