Paris, 11 September 2023 – Rémy Rioux, Chief Executive Officer of Agence Française de Développement (AFD) Group, and Jérémie Pellet, Chief Executive Officer of Expertise France, have appointed Cassilde Brenière as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Expertise France in charge of Operations. She was previously Deputy Director of AFD’s Sustainable Development Solutions Department.

Cassilde Brenière, who had been Deputy Director of AFD’s Sustainable Development Solutions Department since 2022, will assist Expertise France’s Chief Executive Officer with the development and management of projects and operations entrusted to the agency. Her experience at AFD’s management and her extensive knowledge of the key challenges of the century – climate, biodiversity, reduction of inequalities, and democracy – are an asset for the agency, which is adapting its activities to these new challenges.
This appointment, effective since 22 August 2023, is a further sign of the synergies created in AFD Group since the integration of Expertise France in early 2022.

For more than 25 years, Cassilde Brenière has been contributing to building development models bringing concrete results for the final beneficiaries, alongside public authorities or via the private sector.
She joined Agence Française de Développement in 2009, after 15 years of experience in the private and voluntary sector as a technical assistant, including in Burkina Faso, Colombia, the Philippines and Romania, then as manager of an operational unit for water and sanitation services serving 600,000 residents in the suburbs of Paris. She was initially a project manager and was subsequently appointed manager of the division responsible for all the water and sanitation projects financed by AFD around the world.
In 2016, she left for Morocco where she was Deputy Director of AFD’s Rabat office for four years
. She managed the teams of one of AFD’s largest field offices and was behind the introduction of new activities for gender equality, a strong commitment throughout her professional and personal life.
She was subsequently appointed Deputy Director of AFD’s Operations Department in Paris in 2020, before joining Expertise France in 2023 as Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Operations.

The direction of her career, during which she has specialised in the fight for access to water for all, as well as natural resources management, is particularly relevant at a time when Expertise France and AFD Group are engaging in a new Strategy for 2023-2027, placing shared innovation and the mobilisation of public and private actors for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals at the centre of the Group’s action.

Cassilde Brenière graduated as an agricultural engineer from AgroParisTech – Institute of Life Sciences and Industries and the Environment, and subsequently completed her training with a second engineering degree from the Ecole Nationale du Génie Rural, des Eaux et des Forêts.
