Jordan: 7 years of cooperation for the country's development
On April 28 and 29, 2025, Jérémie Pellet, CEO of Expertise France, visited Amman. The trip was an opportunity to strengthen ties with partner administrations and civil society.
During the trip, Jérémie Pellet met Mr Yarub Qudah, Minister of Industry, Trade and Procurement, Mr Muawieh Radaideh, Minister of the Environment, Mr Musaa Maaytah, Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission, and Mr Omar Al-Refai, Secretary General of the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation.
Mr. Pellet also took the opportunity to meet Ms. Tamara El Zein, Lebanon's Minister of the Environment.
The event on Monday April 28 at the "Résidence de France" celebrated a decade of Expertise France's contributions to development and capacity building in the Middle East. It highlighted key achievements in the fields of civil protection, governance, women's empowerment and entrepreneurship, fostering discussions on future collaborations and reinforcing France's commitment to supporting sustainable development, notably through international technical cooperation.
Strengthening democracy and social inclusion
With funding from the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), Expertise France is implementing a project to support the Jordanian Ministry of Social Development at both central and local levels in the management and implementation of services for vulnerable populations (national and non-national), with the support of the CDCLs in the governorates of Karak, Jerash and East Amman.
As part of a project financed by the European Union, the agency is supporting Jordan's reform process towards the consolidation of democracy and the promotion of inclusion in national policies and decision-making processes. The project also aims to strengthen the inclusion of women and young people, and foster a stronger democratic and tolerant political culture.
Developing the green economy
The “Green Forward” regional program was launched on Monday 28th in the presence of the CEO. Funded by the European Union, the “Green and Circular Economy in the Southern Neighborhood” program aims to promote the green and circular economy in the Mediterranean region. Expertise France has been entrusted with the implementation of the component aimed at promoting relevant ecological policies, legislation and standards at macro-economic level among decision-makers, public authorities and the business community. This is to improve market integration and support the harmonization of relevant legislation, the promotion of ecological standards, sustainable public procurement, support for the development of sustainable value chains, economic reforms and economic diversification, and improved selection of green investments.
Ensuring safety and coping with crises
Finally, security and stability are a key focus of the agency's operations in the kingdom.
For several years now, Expertise France has been supporting the strengthening of Jordan's civil protection system, with funding from the AFD. The objectives of this project are to support dialogue and the structuring at national level of the mechanisms set up in the Governorate of Mafraq; to support Jordanian Civil Defence in the specialization of its teams on certain risks and in its reflection on the reform of initial training for its officers.
In this area, the agency is implementing two European regional programs.
The EU's Global Facility for Combating Money Laundering and the Financing of Terrorism (CFT-AML) supports the regional fight against the terrorist threat. Finally, since 2022, the CT-JUST project - in partnership with the FIIAPP - has been helping to build the capacity of criminal justice authorities in the field of counter-terrorism: dismantling terrorist networks, while ensuring that the measures taken comply with states' obligations under international law.
