The 3rd EuropeanProject Advisory Committee (Critical Maritime Routes in the Gulf of Guinea), implemented by Expertise France, was held on the 16th of April in Yaoundé.
Regional organisations (, and ), countries (Benin, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Nigeria, Sao Tome and Principe, Togo), maritime universities (ARSTM and RMU) and the new Interregional Coordination Center for Maritime Security in the Gulf of Guinea, project partners and beneficiaries, met with the team and representatives to exchange on project progress and strategic orientations.
With a €4.5 million budget over a 4-year period, this project is aimed at supporting the countries of the Gulf of Guinea, and regional organisations, in the implementation of maritime security.
Objectives are as follows:
- National capacity building and regional cooperation;
- Development of State action at sea and integrated maritime policies;
- Sharing of pragmatic and professional tools to build capacities of the teams within regional maritime organisations;
- Ensure sustainability of organisations and training tools through the provision of an appropriate support.
, implemented by a consortium led by Expertise France, is supporting this regional effort via the provision of training and support to the organisation of national and regional maritime exercises, aiming at fostering coordination between authorities involved in maritime crisis management.
In total, over 160 trainees from 10 countries and various authorities will be trained in 2015.
