Azerbaijan, supported by Expertise France and GVG (Germany), is working on rehabilitation policies for people with disabilities. The closing conference for the twinning project "Support to the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection for the development of a system for medico-social rehabilitation of people with disabilities" was held on the 22nd of January 2016 and was an opportunity for stakeholders to conclude on activities initiated since May 2014.
The conference gathered over 110 participants and was chaired by Mr Natig Mammadov, Azerbaijan Deputy-Minister of Labour and Social Protection, with representatives from the European Union, and French and German embassies in Azerbaijan. Mrs Nathalie Nikitenko, heading theof French Social Ministries, recalled the long term cooperation between France and Azerbaijan, as well as the relevance of twinning projects in mutual learning.
The interventions from French, German and Lithuanian experts involved in the project led to recommendations on:
- the setting up of the reform on the law on disability;
- raising awareness of citizens on the rehabilitation theme;
- human resources and capacities development;
- the definition of an individual development plan.
The project leaders and the resident twinning adviser presented training supports, assessment sheets and analysis and monitoring instruments developed within the framework of the project, in the pursuit of an objective of social inclusion.
